What it is

This is a 50-hour, entirely online, entirely on-demand certificate. There is no cohort, no start date, no application and no admissions screening — you buy it and get lifetime access to a video library. Three modules of 12 hours each (Preparation, Facilitation Skills, Integration) plus pre-recorded extras and three hours of reflection and self-practice work. It is the cheapest and lowest-commitment thing in this directory by an order of magnitude, and it should be understood as a well-taught set of lectures rather than as training that qualifies you to do anything new.

The faculty list is genuinely strong and is most of what you are paying for: Bessel van der Kolk, Peter Levine, Gabor Maté, Richard Schwartz, Gül Dölen, Devon Christie, Atira Tan, Licia Sky, Chara Caruthers and Elder Duncan. Three further faculty — Rae Johnson, Scott Lyons and 'Michaela' — are named as running live Q&A support sessions. The content genuinely does what the title says: it maps somatic-psychology skills onto the three phases of a psychedelic session. Preparation covers screening tools, consent and containment, somatic intention-setting and resourcing. Facilitation covers a framework for supportive touch and touch alternatives, music, therapeutic ritual and cultural appropriation, transference and countertransference, rupture and repair, dosage and the psycholytic/psychedelic distinction, and risk mitigation. Integration covers a somatic integration model — normalizing, regulation, meaning-making, metabolising, transpersonal support, action planning — plus practitioner self-care.

It is open to non-clinicians, and this matters more than the marketing suggests. The 'who this is for' list runs to twenty-odd categories including coaches, yoga teachers, massage therapists, meditation teachers, clergy, educators and 'other wellness professionals' alongside psychologists, social workers, physicians and nurses. The Embody Lab is explicit: the program 'caters to a diverse audience, including licensed therapists and unlicensed practitioners.' On completion it tells graduates the title they may use is 'Somatic Psychedelic Facilitator.' That title is not regulated, not protected and not recognized by any licensing board in California or anywhere else in the United States. A California LMFT taking this course should understand that they will hold the same certificate as a yoga teacher who took the same videos, and that the certificate confers nothing on either of them beyond the knowledge. What a licensed therapist has, and the yoga teacher does not, is a license — and the license is what governs what either of them may legally do.

Two practical cautions. First, the page you buy is titled for a 2025 cohort and reads like the archived version of what was once a live program: the FAQ says 'an orientation session was only provided for the live program,' 'scholarships were only available for the live program' and 'captioning was only available during the live sessions.' There is no separate 2026 cohort page — this product URL is the only Somatic Psychedelic Facilitator listing on The Embody Lab's site as of 6 August 2026. Second, the continuing-education claim needs reading twice. The program page says '50 hours — this program offers 50 hours of continuing education credits,' but the FAQ says the APA continuing education (48 hours, via co-sponsor Spiritual Competency Academy, which the California BBS accepts for LMFT, LCSW, LPCC and LEP renewal) applied to the live program and that '*Live* attendance was required.' If BBS-countable CE is why you are buying this, confirm in writing before you pay.

   Part 1 theory: a theoretical orientation to somatic psychedelic-assisted therapies; core principles of somatic psychology; mindfulness/embodiment science and its intersection with psychedelic science; clinical versus ceremonial contexts; asynchronous reviews of psychedelic research history, drug classes (classical, empathogens, dissociatives, atypical), macro versus microdosing, traditional plant medicines and Indigenous histories, and mechanism theories (neurochemical, connectome/DMN). Ethics, duty of care and informed consent, framed around 'the enhanced and unique vulnerabilities of participants seeking psychedelic-assisted therapies.' Part 2 skills: five elements of preparation (creating a healing context/set and setting, psychoeducation, consent and agreements, somatic intention setting, somatic resourcing); building a screening approach using team-based care, a list of psychological flags and assessment of a participant's socio-environmental safety nets; working within an interdisciplinary team and within scope of practice; a preparation checklist.

2. Module 2 — Psychedelic Facilitation Skills (12 hours)

   Part 1 theory: overview of a psychedelic session; Kolb's experiential learning cycle applied to somatic psychedelic sessions; a framework for supportive touch and touch alternatives; principles for using music; therapeutic ritual with cultural safety and sensitivity, and avoiding cultural appropriation; trauma-informed language and the difference between reparative/corrective and retraumatising experiences; risk mitigation and safety strategies during the session; co-therapy and individual versus group facilitation; transference and countertransference, rupture and repair, and appropriate self-disclosure; dosage considerations across substances including the difference between psychedelic and psycholytic therapy; immediate post-session care. Part 2 skills: therapeutic presence, invitational embodied inquiry, interoceptive self-awareness, dual awareness and tracking, somatic communication, and using states of awareness to contain, protect and shape the space.

3. Module 3 — Somatic Psychedelic Integration (12 hours)

The URL still carries a '2025' slug and the FAQ describes the live cohort in the past tense; there is no separate 2026 cohort page. This is the only Somatic Psychedelic Facilitator product listed on The Embody Lab's site (checked against their full certificate collection and product sitemap).

What I could not establish

These are the things I looked for and could not establish. Take them to the program, and notice how quickly and precisely they answer.

• Whether the on-demand version currently carries any CE that the California BBS would accept. The program page and the FAQ contradict each other, and no CE certificate sample or SCA co-sponsorship page for the on-demand version was found.
• The year of the three live support sessions (30 September, 15 October, 5 November are listed with no year), and whether they still run for on-demand purchasers.
• The full identity of 'Michaela,' one of the three named live-support faculty — only a first name is given.
• Enrollment numbers, completion rates, or how many people hold the certificate.
• Any independent review or journalism about this specific certificate. Google News returned nothing about The Embody Lab's psychedelic program; Trustpilot returned HTTP 403; Reddit is unreachable from this environment; general web-search engines were blocked. This is a genuine gap rather than a finding that no criticism exists.
• Whether the 10 hours of required 'practice coaching sessions' are supervised, peer-to-peer, or self-arranged — the FAQ does not say, and elsewhere the same FAQ says 'there were no homework assignments for the program,' which conflicts with the stated 3 hours of reflection work.
