What it is
Fluence was founded in 2019 by two psychologists who had actually run psychedelic trials: Elizabeth Nielson (psilocybin for alcohol use disorder at NYU; MAPS Phase 3 site co-PI; Compass Pathways Phase 2b at New York State Psychiatric Institute) and Ingmar Gorman. Its distinguishing commitment is a scope-of-practice discipline the rest of this field mostly lacks. Nielson, in a 2024 Psychedelic Alpha interview: 'We always want to be training people for things that they can do within their scope of practice, either as a licensed provider in the community or on a research study where there's an avenue to use that skill set. That's been one of our guiding principles since we started, which is why you won't see us offering training in modalities where there isn't a clear pathway to use.' That is the whole thesis, and it is why Fluence sells integration and ketamine training to Americans rather than MDMA facilitation.
The structure as of August 2026 is a two-step ladder. Everyone starts with Essentials of Psychedelic Therapy — 6 weeks, live-online, 22 CE hours, $2,195 for the autumn 2026 cohorts, and it ships with 12 hours of on-demand video from the Introduction to Psychedelic Therapy course. You then add one Specialty course to earn a Professional Certificate: Psychedelic Harm Reduction and Integration Therapy (PHRI) or Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy, each 12 weeks and 20 CE hours at $3,500 standalone, or the longer Psilocybin Facilitation track. Bundled, PHRI and KAP certificates are $5,500 (18 weeks, 42 CE hours) and Psilocybin Facilitation is $7,000 (28 weeks, 42 CE hours). Worth noting for a buyer: the site advertises 'Buy the Professional Certificate for a 20% discount!', but $2,195 + $3,500 = $5,695 against a $5,500 bundle price, which is a saving of $195, or about 3%. Payment plans exist (Fluence in-house installments on some products, plus Affirm/PayPal at checkout) and there is a Diversity Fund you can apply to.
The 'integration' framing is the thing that separates Fluence from a facilitator school, and it is a legal distinction rather than a stylistic one. Psychedelic Harm Reduction and Integration Therapy is about supporting clients who are using psychedelics somewhere else — 'whether in a psychotherapy setting, alongside a ketamine clinic, or in the context of clients' independent, non-clinical use.' Nothing in it requires you to be present while anyone takes a drug, so, as Fluence puts it, 'it is applicable in any state.' Facilitator training, by contrast, prepares you to sit with someone during a dosing session, which is only lawful where a state has built a program for it. Fluence separates these two things cleanly and tells you which is which — the honest version of a distinction many programs blur.
For a California reader the practical map is short. The KAP certificate is the only track that changes what you can do at work on Monday, and even then it changes your competence, not your authority: you still need a prescribing partner. The PHRI certificate formalizes integration work you are already permitted to do. The Psilocybin Facilitation certificate is a real state pathway — Fluence International, Inc. is listed on Colorado DORA's Approved Natural Medicine Training Programs register (didactic yes, practicum yes, consultation 'Available Late 2026') — but it is a Colorado credential. It does nothing in California, and Fluence does not currently appear on Oregon Psilocybin Services' list of active approved training programs, which is consistent with its own advice: 'if you are primarily interested in practicing in Oregon, the most reliable current path is to pursue an Oregon-specific training.'

What it lets you do
This is the section the program’s own marketing is least specific about, so it runs before everything else. It was established against the program’s own materials and against the two state registers that matter — Oregon’s approved-curriculum list and Colorado’s.
- Practice ketamine-assisted psychotherapy anywhere in the US, including California, as the psychotherapy half of a collaborative pair. Fluence: 'Ketamine is currently the only legal psychedelic medicine available for clinical therapeutic use in all U.S. states, which makes this training immediately actionable for licensed therapists.'
- Provide psychedelic preparation, harm reduction and integration therapy in California with the PHRI certificate — legal in every state, no special credential needed, and already within an LMFT/LCSW/LPCC/psychologist scope. Fluence: 'it is applicable in any state... this training deepens that practice and can be applied immediately within your current professional context.'
- Apply for a Colorado state psilocybin facilitator license, if you complete the whole Psilocybin Facilitation track including the PRATI practicum and the required consultation hours. Fluence International, Inc. is on Colorado DORA's Approved Natural Medicine Training Programs list (didactic: yes; practicum: yes; consultation: available late 2026), verified 2026-08-06. Note that Fluence's track targets the Psilocybin Clinical Facilitator designation, which additionally requires a Colorado psychotherapy, medical or nursing license.
- Earn 42 CE hours per certificate. Fluence 'is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists' and 'maintains responsibility for this program and its content.'
- Be recognized by KAP care-delivery platforms: Journey Clinical names Fluence as one of the didactic trainings it accepts for therapist onboarding, alongside CIIS, Polaris, MAPS and Alchemy.
- Obtain or replace a psychotherapy license. Fluence, verbatim: 'This certificate does not grant a psychotherapy license.'
- Prescribe or administer ketamine. Fluence, verbatim: 'nor does it confer prescribing authority or the ability to administer ketamine independently.' A prescriber (MD, DO, NP or PA) holds all medical authority.
- Administer or supervise the administration of any controlled substance on the PHRI certificate. Fluence, verbatim: 'This certificate does not grant a psychotherapy license, nor does it permit you to administer or supervise the administration of any controlled substance.'
- Facilitate psilocybin sessions in California. Psilocybin is Schedule I under California Health & Safety Code §11054 and California has no regulated psilocybin services program. Fluence: the psilocybin certificate 'does not authorize psilocybin practice in states beyond Colorado (and potentially Oregon pending cross-state equivalency) at this time.'
- Use the Fluence psilocybin certificate for Oregon licensure. Fluence does not appear on Oregon Psilocybin Services' list of Current Active Psilocybin Training Programs (15 programs; checked 2026-08-06), and Fluence itself advises: 'if you are primarily interested in practicing in Oregon, the most reliable current path is to pursue an Oregon-specific training or license.' The cross-state equivalency Fluence hopes for is explicitly unguaranteed: 'this outcome depends on legislative and regulatory decisions by both agencies, and we cannot guarantee a timeline or outcome.'
- Practice MDMA-assisted therapy. MDMA-assisted therapy is not FDA-approved; Lykos Therapeutics' expanded-access program is fully enrolled and closed, and Lykos describes itself as still 'focused on pursuing FDA approval'. Consistent with its scope discipline, Fluence's current certificate menu does not include an MDMA facilitation track.
- Change anything the California BBS requires or recognizes. A Fluence certificate is a school credential; it does not alter your license, title, or scope.
Before diving into each program, it is worth establishing one foundational point: Fluence certificate programs are not a pathway to obtaining a psychotherapy license. They are continuing education and professional development programs designed for clinicians who are already licensed or credentialed in a relevant mental health field. What I could not establish
These are the things I looked for and could not establish. Take them to the program, and notice how quickly and precisely they answer.
- The Psilocybin Practicum (PRATI, Denver, 4 days) is listed at $0 in Fluence's catalog, which almost certainly means PRATI bills it separately. The actual practicum cost — and travel and lodging in Denver — is not published by Fluence, so the true cost of the Colorado licensure pathway is above the $7,000 certificate price by an unknown amount.
- The 40 hours of post-licensure consultation Colorado requires are not costed anywhere on the Fluence site, and Fluence's own DORA listing shows consultation as only 'Available Late 2026'.
- Fluence states APA approval to sponsor CE for psychologists but does not state on its site whether the California BBS accepts those hours for LMFT/LCSW/LPCC renewal. (The mechanism exists — a competing provider, Polaris, publishes the BBS statement verbatim — but confirm with Fluence or the BBS before relying on it.)
- Fluence appears to have previously run an Oregon-approved program — a psilocybin FAQ still asks 'What if I trained in Fluence's Oregon (OR) program?' — but it is not on Oregon Psilocybin Services' current active list, and no announcement explaining the change was found.
- The Psilocybin Practicum page describes the practicum as '4 days' in its header and 'this 5-day practicum' in the body; the discrepancy is unresolved.
- Fluence's in-house installment plan terms (deposit size, number of months, any interest) are described only in general terms; specific figures appear at checkout.
- Diversity Fund award sizes and eligibility criteria were not retrievable.
- No independent reviews, journalism, or forum criticism of Fluence could be retrieved in this environment (search engines and Reddit were blocked). The Psychedelic Alpha interview is the only non-Fluence, non-partner source used here.
